Queensland Triathlon Series - Round 1 - Race Report
October 19th 2008
Clear skies and warm conditions greeted almost 1300 competitors for Race 1 of the Gatorade Queensland Triathlon Series held at Raby Bay in Brisbane. This relatively flat course was a great way to prepare for the upcoming challenge of the Tre-X off-road Triathlon. The Raby Bay course starts with a swim in the Marina Canal, followed by a bike ride out onto the main road with just one hill climb, finishing with a flat run through the suburbs.
The course is quite compact, meaning that plenty of spectators can get close to the action.Michael kicked things off early with his race in the ‘Enticer’ category (200m swim, 5km bike, 2km run), finishing a creditable 39th out of 63 competitors. When asked about his performance on the day Michael replied, “As soon as I learn to ride a bike, I’ll have a much better chance of winning”.
Dmitri followed up with a blistering performance in the QTS category (400m swim, 15km bike, 4km run), achieving an impressive 3rd place for Adventure Team Peregian. With more performances like this, perhaps Dmitri is on track for a podium place at the end of the QTS 6 Race Series. The next race in this series is being held at Robina on the Gold Coast on November 16.
